In all of my DMs on Instagram, most messages can be boiled down to this one question: how do I change my life? If you are anything like me, you spent a ton of time planning and preparing for the life you are living now. Sure, maybe it’s not your dream life, but it probably was your dream life once. So where do you go from here? Today’s episode is going to be all about the 3 things that I wish I had started doing earlier on my personal growth journey. The purpose behind this episode is to inspire you to get started earlier. The longer you wait for your dream life to magically happen, the less time you actually have to enjoy that life.
So how do I change my life? With this episode – let’s dive in!
If there was one thing that I could have started earlier, it would have been creating systems. For years, I struggled to adopt new habits. I wanted to workout consistently. Waking up early was always on my goal list. Every New Year’s resolution I have written involves making more money … somehow. But I never saw any progress, and it was frustrating.
So how do I change my life? Instead of focusing on habits, focus on systems. The first system that I think every busy mom should create is an organizational system. How are you organizing all of your to do list items and everything that keeps you up at night? For me, that was when I created my customized notebook system called my MAP Book. I truly wish I had started using this years ago. It truly transformed me from an overwhelmed mom to an organized mom, in just a few weeks of consistent use. If that sounds good to you, you can download your free set-up guide here .
Other ideas for systems are a cleaning system, a weekly planning system, a grocery shopping system, a workout system. Once I created the system, implementing it was a no-brainer. Sure, I have plenty of tips and tricks for creating habits and refining your systems. But once the system was established, a lot less of my time and energy went into executing these things.
So if you are wondering, “How do I change my life?”, I strongly recommend starting by looking at systems.
When a client asks me “How do I change my life?”, my second response is to make a plan for your personal growth. Now, don’t get me wrong. Personal growth is personal growth. But I spent years listening to random podcast episodes, reading random personal growth books and following random personal growth gurus.
Recently, I have taken a more focused approach by using a personal growth plan (you can learn all about that system by checking out my workshop). So instead of listening to all the noise in the personal growth sphere, I stay focused on one key area at a time. For example, in quarter one this year, I am focused on developing an abundance mindset. So the resources that I am consuming, all focus on that topic. I know having a millionaire mindset will transform me in the biggest possible way, so that is where I am investing my time.
If you are just getting started with your personal growth journey, dabble away. Figure out what you like, what you don’t like and what resonates with you. But once you have done that exploratory phase, focus in on what areas you want to invest in and make a plan to get there.
Finally, my last response when someone asks “How do I change my life?” is to get an accountability partner. I wish I had done that earlier. For years, I told my husband about what I was learning, but that was it. Honestly, it was a disservice to the people around me. Now, I have a group of women that I lean on daily with my personal growth goals.
Once I learned how much accountability helps, I also invested in coaches in different areas of my life. I have hired business coaches for my photography business and coaches for my coaching business. A life coach and a therapist are on my personal growth team.
To be honest, the reason I waited so long to create this accountability system was embarrassment. I was afraid of what other people might think. And honestly, I am so glad that I overrode that. If I could go back, I would focus my personal growth on becoming more confident so that I could invest in myself faster. My growth since having an accountability system has more than tripled. Imagine where I would be today if I had done it sooner!
How do I change my life? You are doing it, mama! You just listened to this episode, which hopefully gave you a few ideas of how you can jumpstart your own personal growth journey. Here are some ideas to implement right away.
First, if you don’t have an organizational system yet, check out my MAP Book system. You can download the free guide here and see if this could help you change your life in six months or less of consistent use.
Second, make a plan! I put hours and hours into creating a resource for you so that you don’t have to do this step alone. You can check out my personal growth plan workshop here. It will lead you through how to create a personal growth plan for the next 12 months, in 60 minutes or less. I share with you my personal growth plan and also a plan that I created 1:1 with one of my clients.
Finally, find a way to stay accountable to your personal growth journey. You can get a group of friends together, hire a coach or share your process with a partner. Whatever you do, remember that accountability is the secret sauce to your success.
